“As Paris 2024 Olympic Games approach, Time to Play explores the concept of play in its many forms to understand how it shapes cities and societies.
The pages of this "exquisite corpse" feature texts on a variety of topics: experiencing grief through video games, play therapy in psychiatric institutions, bigorexia (compulsive over-exercising), the inequity of international trade rules, the blurred boundaries between sports fervor and sacred rituals, the rich history of color and its symbolism in sports, the architecture of addiction in casinos, the dangers of online sports betting platforms, gender equality in French sports, parkour and skateboarding as ways to reclaim urban spaces, and much more.

Time to Play was born out of a desire to discuss play while playing, through a free interpretation of the "exquisite corpse" method. Here, contributors don’t directly continue one another’s work but compose their own unique pieces, all coming together to form a polyphonic whole. Interviews, photo reports, illustrations, analyses, essays, articles, and excerpts — play is examined in its many facets, according to each contributor’s perspective. The aim is to offer readers the freedom to piece together their reading experience as they wish.”
